On the 27 and 28 October 2023 Perth Hills Live Musicians' Association Inc. (PHLMA Inc.) will hold a Live Music Spring Festival at the Kalamunda Performing Arts Centre historic Agricultural Hall. PHLMA Inc. is delighted that so many generous and talented artists are performing at the Festival. Thanks also go to Michael Ward and Ben Catly for the Festival banner and poster artwork. The Festival will commence with a celebration of young, emerging and establishing local talent at the Opening Concert at 6 p.m. on Friday 27 October 2023. This will feature four unique local bands; Kalamunda Youth Swing Band Junior Band, Burnt Pearl, Lakefield Temple and Liquid Hearts. Music Industry Workshops will be held on Saturday 28 October 2023 from 9 a.m. - 12 noon. Led by industry experts and outstanding musicians the workshops will cover live mixing, pre-production sound and becoming a successful gigging musician. Presenters are; Bruce Van Blommestein, President PHLMA Inc. and independent artists Matt Cal and Michael Ward. Hands on Acoustic and Orchestral workshops will be held on Saturday 28 2023 from 9.30 a.m. - 11.45 a.m. Led by "Enchanted Bells" duo you can learn to play handchimes and hand bells. These instruments produce a beautiful, almost fairy like sound and can play complete melodies. Northern Lights Music WA led by Jennylynne will hold an open orchestral jam with music provided for all levels. Bring your orchestral instrument and pitch in to make some classical music sounds! A "Sweet Sounds" Classical, Vocal, Orchestral and Acoustic Concert will be held from 1 - 5 p.m. in the Agricultural Hall, KPAC on Saturday 28 October 2023. This will be a wonderful acoustic afternoon with five performances and an opportunity to mingle with the artists during afternoon tea and make connections and discuss all things vocal, orchestral and acoustic! Performances include; Kalamunda Sing (with pianist Nicholas Willams), Trilogy acoustic trio, Tutti Flute, Northern Lights Music W.A. and Enchanted Bells. The Live Music Spring Festival will close on a high note with the "Headline Independent Artists Concert" which will commence at 6 p.m. and run through till 9 p.m. Local original indie band Bird Girl will kick the evening off, followed solo by Kalamunda's very own acclaimed roots musician, recording artist and musical mentor Matt Cal. The evening concert will be rounded off by the energetic and talented Michael Ward Trio. Michael Ward has a full national touring schedule and we are delighted to have his support and enthusiasm at the Festival.
